Delpha Madrid, beloved mother and grandmother passed away on January 27, 2016 at Manor Care at Wingfield Springs, Sparks. Delpha was born to Jose D. and Delpha Martinez on Jan. 30, 1921 in Pagosa Springs, Colo. She graduated from Pagosa Springs High School in 1940.
She met her soul mate Eligio D. Madrid and on Sept. 7, 1942, were married in Parkview, N.M. They were married 64 years at the time of Leo’s death. They moved to Hawthorne in 1944 and raised their family. Hawthorne was their home until they retired from the Naval Ammunition Depot and moved to Reno and resided there for 36 years.
Delpha enjoyed many family gatherings, especially during the holidays. She loved cooking, camping, shopping and traveling. Delpha and Leo traveled extensively throughout their marriage.
Delpha was preceded in death by her husband Eligio; brothers: P.A. Martinez and Fred Martinez; grandson Michael E. Wood and son in law Larry L. Brant. She is survived by her daughters: Vangie (Rich) Danner of Sparks and Irene Madrid of Sparks; son: Leo (Debbie) Madrid of South Jordan, Utah and daughter Connie Brant of Reno. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Respecting Delpha’s wishes, there will be a memorial service at a later date. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery.
