To the community involved and boost the local economy, Joe’s Tavern has a whole slew of weekly, monthly, and special one-off events happening all season long. Thursday Cornhole days will take a break next week so be sure to get your last throws in on the 24th. Here are some other new and exciting events coming up:

  • Monday Family Nights- The new special comes into effect at 5 p.m. on Mondays, when families can get two meals for $20 as well as a free appetizer.
  • Friday Club Nights- Starting Friday, August 19, those looking for some more excitement in Hawthorne should head to Joe’s for Club Night to find dance music and an energetic feel. “Club nights are geared more towards that younger 21 and older crowd because that’s what they’re asking for. There will be loud, dancy music, and hopefully people will dress to the nines. Right now, they are going to Reno for that kind of atmosphere, and it would be nice to have them stay in town and spend locally,” says Joe’s Tavern Owner Cassie Hall.
  • Saturday, August 20- Jesus at Joe’s: Starting August 20, monthly bible study sessions will be held at 9 a.m.
  • Wednesday, August 24: Back-to-School Night Spaghetti Feed- From 5-8 p.m, Joe’s will have all-you-can-eat spaghetti, salad, and bread for a suggested minimum donation of $5 per person. Proceeds go to the teacher who gets the most votes that night for the year’s classroom supplies.
  • Thursdays at 5 p.m.: Community Spaghetti Feeds- Following the Back-to-School night, Joe’s will continue to hold $5 spaghetti feeds on Thursdays from 5 p.m. until they run out of food. A small group of faithful regulars come every week and Joe’s welcomes fresh faces.
  • Friday, August 26: Country Karaoke Night- Dress up in your western best and test out your singing abilities with the karaoke machine at Joe’s this Friday to see if you’re ready for Nashville. Because everyone knows that after a few shots of Jack Daniel’s, everyone sounds really good (or really bad). Country karaoke starts at 9 p.m.
  • Saturday, August 27: Joe’s Fantasy Football Draft Party- Football fans are invited to start a league of their own at Joe’s and take advantage of weekly drawings where people can win gift cards and other prizes including tickets to 49ers and Raiders games. Draft boards are going to be set up on August 27 for people to put in their teams and will be tracked all season long. Don’t forget- the NFL season starts on September 8.
  • Saturday, September 3: Dart League- Got what it takes to hit the bullseye on a consistent basis? Then you may want to consider signing up for the Dart League at Joe’s. Come to the meeting at 7 p.m. to join the league and games will be held every Saturday thereafter.
  • Sunday, September 4: Family Movie Night- Bring the whole family out on Sunday for a nice relaxing G/PG movie at Joe’s. “We have seating, a popcorn machine, and a big screen,” Hall says.
  • October 2 at 8 p.m.: Comedy with the Jokers and Jester Comedy Tour- Catch comedians Tony Dijamco, Jake Daniels, Mark Gee, and Steve Mazan while they come through Hawthorne for a night of laughs and a magic show at Joe’s. Visit http://jokersandjester.com to learn more about the group, and keep your calendar open on the evening of October 2 if you are in need of some comic relief.

“We just see a need for community development and recreation and so this will hopefully encourage that. As a commissioner, we started a new department around community development, and have gotten positive feedback from that.

“There’s a big up push for supporting local businesses and coming together on a united front. As businesses, we’re only as strong as our weakest link and we’re all in this together,” Hall adds.
