The 2019 football season started out with a bang for Mineral County High as they traveled to Whittell and picked up an impressive 64-18 win Friday night.

Mineral County opened the game with back-to-back scoring drives to take a quick 14-0 lead before Serpent quarterback Seth Bozzi connected with Issacc Torres for a 40-yard touchdown pass to pad the early lead. The Serpents added another score to take a 30-0 lead before the Warriors got on the board late in the first.

After another touchdown in the second quarter, the Serpents outscored Whittell 26-12 in the second half to win the game going away.

Bozzi completed 10 of his 16 pass attempts for 246 yards and four touchdowns, and also carried the ball five times for 96 yards and a score. Mineral County’s Tony Torres couldn’t be stopped as the senior rushed for 111 yards and three touchdowns, while also hauling in six catches for 111 yards and a score. Torres also had a pair of two-point conversions and had 11 tackles on the defensive side.

Issacc Torres caught six passes for 82 yards and a pair of touchdowns, a twopoint conversion and an interception. Preston Larramendy caught a touchdown pass and Ryan Jaramillo led the defense with 12 total tackles.

The Serpents (1-0) host their homeopener Friday night against Sierra Lutheran (1-1) at 7 p.m. at Mineral County High School. The Falcons are coming off of their first win of the season when they defeated Big Pine 45-38 on Saturday.
