Back to School Shot Clinic Set For Aug. 29

A walk-in back to school shot clinic will be held on Aug. 29 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 331 First Street in Hawthorne for uninsured, underinsured (vaccines are not covered by insurance), have Medicaid or are American Indian/Alaskan Native. The Mineral County Community Health Nurse does have limited private insurance vaccines. Please call to confirm availability, 775-945-3657.

CAHS Back to School Supply Drive

Every year CAHS collects school supplies and distributes them to the low-income students of Mineral County. The CAHS office would like to ensure that every student in our community is equipped for success. Your donation will help keep our students on track and further their education. Donations can be dropped off at Financial Horizons Credit Union, Dollar General, Family Dollar or at CAHS, Monday-Frida, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. They are located at 924 5th Street. Donation of supplies prior to Aug. 12 is appreciated to help distribute the school supplies to the students on or before Aug. 14.

CAHS would like to thank you for considering this opportunity to help the children.

Items needed: backpacks; loose leaf paper – college and wide ruled; glue sticks; markers; pens; composition books; dividers; 3-ring binders; #2 pencils; mechanical pencils; colored pencils; pencil sharpener; mid-sized scissors; Sharpies; highlighters; dry erase markers; pencil boxes; folders with 3-prong inserts; protractors and spiral notebooks.

CAHS will now also be accepting Back to School Supply Program signups for the upcoming 2019/2020 school year. Signups will begin July 15 and end Aug. 2. This program is for low income families. If you are the primary caretaker of the child/children, you may sign your child up for school supplies. Please bring in your proof of income; including food stamp verification.

Mineral County Motorheads Event on Tap

The Mineral County Motorheads have an upcoming event scheduled on Saturday, Sept. 14 sponsored by the El Capitan that day, which includes a car show, vendors and various booths for the public to enjoy. If you show your rides, have an interest in securing a booth or would like to volunteer in assisting with the duties of running the day’s event, please attend their monthly noon luncheon meeting. It is held on Saturday, Aug. 10, at the El Capitan in the small banquet room. Further information can also be obtained at the Mineral County Economic Development Authority office, located at the USO Convention Center building.

A shop, swap and show will be held on Sept. 14 to benefit the Boys & Girls Club – Mineral County chapter. The fun starts on Friday, Sept. 13 when Danny “The Count” Koker and his Count 77 band again rocks Barley’s Sports bar as a kickoff.

Saturday’s events include a kid’s zone, swap meet, car show and meeting with Curt McBride, driver of the Fallen Ones car as well as meeting with Millers Chopshop.
