All year long the team competed at tough 3A and 4A meets, competing against the Norther Nevada elites. During the season the team started to question, “Why do we only compete against the big schools?” and they were told in order to be the best, they have to go against the best. It showed at the regional championships on Friday and Saturday at Fallon High School.
On Friday, the team started off strong with Bobbie Dillard claiming silver in the 100-meter dash. Robert McFalls and Jonathan Scott kept the momentum going. McFalls took the bronze and Scott took 4th in the 100-meter dash. The 4×200-meter relay was up next and the team of McFalls, Scott, Jerad Dore’ and Tony Torres brought home the gold.
Then the Serpents were on to the triple jump and McFalls dominated the event with a 42-foot jump, another gold for the Serpents. With no time to waste, the 4×100-meter relay was waiting and McFalls, Scott, Donavan Lazzarado and Torres ran a photo finish race and missed the gold by a thousandth of a second.
On Saturday the Serpents began the day with Dore’ claiming gold in the high jump and Torres jumping for gold in the long jump. Freshman Issac Torres took fifth in the long jump to qualify for state.
Next up, Scott in the 200-meter dash finished fifth in a close race, good enough to go to state. Bobbie Dillard also ran in the 200meter and she managed to capture the bronze. Dore’ and Isaac were next in the 400-meter dash and the two ran great. Dore’ took the silver and Torres qualified for state, placing fifth. With the last event of the meet next, the team of Dore, Lazzardo and the Torres brothers were in the 4×400 relay and not having done this all season they performed great and snatched up the silver.
The team would like to thank all that came out and supported them. A special thanks to Ann Kee for breakfast on Friday and lunch on Saturday.
