The Serpents keep on winning.

Mineral County High’s boys basketball team opened up conference play last week and the results were no different than they were during non-conference play.

They defeated Round Mountain on the road Friday 82-12 before knocking off Tonopah the next day, 65-34.

The wins improved the Serpents to 17-1 overall and 2-0 in the 1A Central League. The boys only loss this season came on Dec. 7 when they fell to Incline 59-57 at the Whittell tournament.

They’ve posted double-digit wins in their last six contests.

The Serpent girls are off to a 3-0 start in conference after picking up two more wins over the weekend.

Perla Gutierrez dropped 26 points and Lashay Stephens added 10 Friday in a 52-23 win at Round Mountain. Raynee Knight and Jerzi Moody-Isom each recorded a dozen rebounds in the win.

Mineral County outscored Tonopah 40-27 in the second half and picked up a 69-57 win the next day. Gutierrez had another monster game as she dropped a game-high 43 points. Moody-Isom had 12 points and pulled down eight rebounds.

Both Mineral County teams hosted Smith Valley Tuesday night (after press time) and play at Oasis and Coleville on Friday and Saturday.
