The Mineral County High School baseball team has continued its winning ways as of late and is in position to lock up a playoff spot this weekend.
The Serpents lost to Smith Valley in the first game of a doubleheader on April 21, but rebounded with a 9-7 win in game two to make them winners in seven of their last eight games. Five players had two hits for Mineral County in game two with the Bulldogs, highlighted by Johnny Serrato who had a double, an RBI and three runs scored.
Serrato also got the win on the mound, pitching two and third innings and giving up no earned runs. Aaden Shalosky got the start and struck out seven.
The Serpents finish the regular season Friday with a doubleheader at home against Excel Christian at 12 and 2 p.m.
They now sit at 13-9 overall and 8-4 in the 1A Northern League. They are tied with Excel Christian for third place and are three games clear of fifth place Pyramid Lake.
