Robert W. Anbro

Robert W. (Bob) Anbro of Walker Lake passed away at the age of 77 at Mt. Grant General Hospital on April 15, 2018.

Bob was born on Dec. 13, 1940 (a Friday). The only child of Robert P. Anbro and June Marie (Fort) Anbro in Rockford, Ill.

At a young age, his family moved to Pico Rivera, Calif. where he attended schools. Bob graduated from Brown Military Academy in San Diego in 1958. He was thinking about joining the Air Force but instead worked for his father at his tile company.

In 1960, Bob joined the Navy and retired in 1981. Also, while in the Navy, bob earned a Bachelor’s Degree and also earned a black belt in karate.

After retiring from the Navy, Bob moved to Oregon. He was employed as a guard in the Oregon Penitentiary, retiring again after 12 years. From Oregon, Bob moved to Walker Lake. He was employed at the El Capitan as a security guard. Moving up to security manager, retiring for good in 2011. He enjoyed telling people that he had retired three times.

Bob leaves behind his beloved wife Karen. (Like Bob, Karen was also born on Friday the 13th. The couple was married on Friday, May 13, 2005). The couple enjoyed going on cruises, spending weeks at a time in different cities in Mexico.

Bob leaves two sons from his first marriage, James (Maria) of Nev. and David (Judy) of S.C.

Karen’s family embraced Bob with open arms and he truly loved both of Karen’s girls as his own: Deby (Mike) Gilbert and Gigi Leetzow and their children: Daniel, Erick, Mikey and Rachael, Jimmy and D.J., all of Reno.

Since Bob was an only child, he was very close to his cousins: John Anbro of Indiana; Valerie Brown of Southern California and Heidi Tashock of Illinois. Never a week went by without a phone call to or from them.

Per Bob’s request, there will be no services.

Because Bob loved the Navy and the ocean, his ashes will be scattered in the Pacific Ocean by San Diego.
