Lois Rose (Moore) McConnaughey was born to Lois G. Atherton and Donald L. Moore on Oct. 4, 1930 in Little Rock, Ark. Lois joined her many friends and family in Heaven on March 29, 2013 while residing in Alamogordo, N.M. She was 82 years old.

Her family moved to Reno when she was five-years old and then to Hawthorne, where she attended high school, graduating in 1948. She worked at the Naval Ammunition Depot for several years, transferring to Ogden, Utah to finish out her civil service career. During those years, she took care of her halfsister, Suzanne, who is mentally and physically challenged, with never a complaint. She met and married Bill McConnaughey and was very happy and active during their marriage. Upon her retirement in Alamogordo, she became very active in the Senior Center there, with many wonderful loving friends.

Lois is survived by her son, John Harrison and wife, Kittie, of San Diego, Calif.; her sister, Dolores Pummill of Dayton, Nev.; her brother Jim Moore and his wife, Shirley of Salem, Ore.; and her half-sister Suzanne Conterno of Carson City, Nev. Lois leaves behind numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Bill; her sons Mack and David; and her brothers Jack; Don; and Bob Moore;and many of her loving pets.

Lois enjoyed life and people; her door was always open to anyone in need and very generous with many friends. She had a big heart and gave selflessly of her time to the Senior Center. She is sorely missed by all her friends and family who loved her dearly.

A graveside service will be held at the Hawthorne Cemetery, Aug. 12, 2013 at 1p.m., with her brother Jim officiating.
