Roberta Banfield

Roberta Banfield, age 78, passed away on April 23 at Mt. Grant General Hospital in Hawthorne.

She was born on April 19, 1940 in Los Angeles, Calif. to Robert and Louise MacDonald. Roberta graduated from high school at Garden Grove High School in California.

For the last 22 years, Roberta and her husband, Donald, made their home in Hawthorne. They were married in Garden Grove, Calif. and had been together 60 years.

Roberta held a variety of jobs over the years. The job she loved best was starting up and working for “Lake Elsinore Animal Friends”. It became the official animal shelter for Lake Elsinore, Calif. and surrounding areas. Roberta also enjoyed breeding, raising and placing well papered Rottweiler’s. She loved showing some of their Rottweiler’s and taking them to championships. She loved that life almost as much as raising the couple’s daughter and two sons. She enjoyed their nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. She loved her life and was passionate about many things.

Roberta volunteered for any and all things animal, art oriented and local law enforcement.

She is survived by her husband, Donald Banfield of Hawthorne; sons: Randall Banfield and wife, Stephonie of Hemet, Calif. and Rick Banfield of Monmouth, Ore.; grandson: Justin Banfield and wife, Kari of Hawthorne; many grand and great grandchildren and brothers: Robert MacDonald of Tumwater, Wash. and George MacDonald of Forest Grove, Ore.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Robert and Louise MacDonald; husband’s parents: Delmer and Pearl Banfield and daughter, Cindy Banfield.

A celebration of life will be held at the Hawthorne Community Presbyterian Church, 7th and F Streets on May 5 at 11 a.m. A reception will follow after the service in the fellowship hall.

Gunter’s Funeral Home of Hawthorne has handled the necessary arrangements.
