Robert Lewis Cox was born on May 5, 1970 to Lelia Walker and Edward Sampson in Bastrop, La.

He was very active in his childhood and was very outgoing in his character and personality. Robert was blessed to have Robert E. Cox to adopt him and become his father.

Robert was an avid fisherman and enjoyed drag racing and had a great big heart of love for all people.

Robert went home to heaven when Jesus called his name on March 29, 2018.

Robert accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in 1982 and was baptized by Rev. E.M. Howard and Deacon George McNeal at Bethel Baptist Church. Robert was great in BTU, he was in fellowship as often as he could and loved to praise God with everything in him.

Robert attended and graduated from Mineral County High School in 1988.

Robert was employed at Round Mountain Gold Mine and he loved his work and worked very hard for his family.

He was preceded in death by his dog “Lucky”; grandparents: James and Scottie Walker; grandmother, Cager L. Cox; uncles: Jackie and Arthur and aunt, Bobbie.

Robert leaves a legacy of loved ones behind: his partner, Judie Bullinger; daughter, Jazmyn Rose; stepchildren: Anthony, Shray and Bobbie Girl; his pets: Little man, Lucky and L.J.; his parents: Pastor Robert and Lelia Cox; his sister, Tinisha Cox of Houston, Texas; his brother, Minister Joseph Cox of Hawthorne; his grandpa, Archie L. Cox; uncles: James, Roosevelt and Luther; aunts: Minnie, Estella, Dell, Janet and Roxanne: niece, Tineka Lawson; nephews: Dantay Blanson and LeVaughn Cox and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family members and friends.

A Celebration of Life for Robert Lewis Cox (Blackie) will be held on Saturday, April 7 at 1 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church in Hawthorne. A fellowship meal to follow at the Mineral County Care & Share.

Viewing will be held on Friday, April 6 at Gunter’s Funeral Home from 4-6 p.m.
