The Victory Garden Club met on July 16 at the Cooperative Extension office. The participation was great—maybe the fact that it was pizza night had something to do with that!

We discussed several concerns, but the bulk of the evening was spent discussing our concern for the Memorial Rose Garden. Through the years many of our members have volunteered time in the garden, either as individuals or with a group, even as far back as working with Wanda Nolan as she maintained it as a ‘beauty spot.’ Our first gatherings as an organization were work parties at the Rose Garden. Sheri Samson’s “What’s up with that” column in the last edition of MCIN brought the garden back in the spotlight again and elicited the discussions of how we might help.

Mr. andMrs. Getz have been the dedicated volunteers for quite some time and I hope they know how much they’re appreciated. The Garden Club wants to pass along their thanks to them and all the other volunteers who, through the years, have tried to keep the roses shining in all their splendor.

The club will be meeting at the Rose Garden to make observations and discuss the possibilities as we see them. Please use the Letters to the Editor with any public sentiments about the Memory Garden and possible ideas.
