The NHP Northern Command center said that there were several weather-related crashes this past weekend that included slide-offs and semi-trucks affected by the wind. Thankfully, there were no serious injuries from these incidents.

In Mineral County, Sheriff Ferguson said that five semi-trucks were blown over because of intense winds and two patrol vehicles damaged by blowing debris. One Deputy received glass in his eyes, which required medical attention.

With this week’s upcoming storm, Nevada State Police Highway Patrol Sergeant Comish, who oversees the Mineral County area, would like to remind commuters that, “Safety remains the highest priority for our State Troopers, so if you do not need to travel, please stay home, and stay safe.

“If you must travel, please check road conditions prior to driving by visiting nvroads.com and be sure to heed all travel advisories, including chain restrictions and wind advisories for high profile vehicles.”

NHP Northern Command Public Information Officer Kim Yoko Smith reiterated that the last storm caused vehicle accidents across the entire Northern Nevada region- not just affecting Mineral County-and added that if for some reason someone needs to abandon their vehicle and needs help retrieving it, they can visit autoreturn.com and pull up its location if they know their license plate numbers.
