In the past few weeks, members of the Walker Lake Crusaders Youth Group, young and old, along with members of the Mineral County Sportsmen’s Club, have organized cleanup days to rid some popular beaches at Walker Lake of debris.

The WLC have focused on the beaches of State; Old Ski; Sportsman’s and Tamarack. In those outings they removed a large amount of debris, consisting mostly of old beer bottles and cans, circa 1970’s, along the water’s edge. This should serve as a reminder that we should always be considerate of the environment.

Even when you think you may “not be littering’ simply because you sank your bottle rather than throwing it on the beach, someday that “litter” will surface.

Let’s hope it is not at the expense of a young child’s foot, after they step on the broken glass you dropped in the lake 30 years ago. Food for thought.
