Mineral County High School played host to the 1A Northern Regional baseball tournament May 9-10 as four teams battled it out for a chance to play in the state tourney this week.

The No. 3 seeded Serpents played No. 2 Wells in its first game and lost 15-5, dropping them into the lower side of the double-elimination bracket.

Mineral County was able to bounce back later that day and defeated Excel Christian 12-9. The Serpents scored four runs in each of the first three innings on their way to win, and were helped by a strong pitching performance by Aaden Shalosky. The senior struck out 10 in the game and got the win while only giving up three hits and no earned runs.

Robert Wilson led the way on offense with a big home run and three runs scored.

The Serpents advanced to play Smith Valley the next morning for a chance to play in the title game, but fell to the Bulldogs 14-7. The loss ended the season for Mineral County.

Wells went on to top Smith Valley in the title game, but both teams advanced to the state tournament this week at Indian Springs. Liberty Baptist and Indian Springs make up the other two schools that will play for a state title May 15-17.

Mineral County finished the season with a record of 16-11 overall.
