Nevada’s senators sent a letter Friday to leaders of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee requesting a hearing for Sen. Jacky Rosen’s (D-NV) Washoe County lands bill.

Rosen introduced the bill, which would open up new lands for development and conserve nearly a million acres in Northern Nevada, in January. Their letter, addressed to committee chairman Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) and ranking member Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY), explains that the bill is supported by the relevant municipalities and was developed over years with local input.

Rosen does not sit on the committee. Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) does, and she also chairs the public lands subcommittee.

The last Nevada lands bill to become law was a proposal in Churchill County targeting land for the Fallon Naval Air Station in 2022, as part of must-pass defense legislation. Prior to that, no Nevada lands bills had passed since 2006.
