A fire broke out at the El Capitan Casino last Thursday night in the wall between the exhaust hood and the back of the kitchen, but fortunately it was extinguished within an hour thanks to the fast response of the Mineral County Fire Department.

El Capitan Operations Manager Terry Rideout says he’s not sure how the fire started and is thinking that it could have ignited within the electrical system. The fire affected about a 10’x10’ space in the kitchen and he is not sure how much the damages are, but it is currently being investigated.

“There will be some clean up, repair, and then we’ll be open,” he says. “Our fire department is remarkable; they had it doused in no time,” he adds.

Rideout says the casino is still open, and the restaurant is expected to be closed for another week or so. He adds that everything else is going well at the casino, and it is ramping up to host its annual fireworks show at next month’s Armed Forces Day Weekend.
