At the last Mineral County Board of Commissioners meeting held February 1, the county’s representatives talked about everything from buying new vehicles to replacing the roof of the Walker Lake firehouse, how the county handles grant funding, and filling a position on the Library Board of Trustees. Here are some of the noteworthy items and discussion from that meeting:

In Agenda Item #9 of its General Business, Hawthorne Utilities Director Tom Carrigan asked the Commissioners to consider combining the budgets of two vehicles from the Landfill Equipment and Hawthorne, Sewer Cap, Mina and Luning buckets into one so that Hawthorne Utilities could purchase one truck in the amount of $50,000. The Commissioners unanimously agreed on that, as well as using Sourcewell as the procurement processer to buy the truck.

In a following agenda item, the board considered filling a vacancy on the Mineral County Library Board of Trustees with either Christina Boyles or Gladys Porter, both who submitted Letters of Interest regarding the position. After discussion, Commissioners Schlepp and Grant chose Boyles due to her experience with Mineral County.

The Commissioners also talked about how much it would cost to replace the roof on the Walker Lake Firehouse. State Roofing Systems Inc. submitted a bid of $104,017 for asphalt shingles (that did not include metal roofing) and D&D Roofing and Sheetmetal submitted a bid of $93,700 for asphalt shingles as well as $200k for metal roofing. CTR Roofing came in at the lowest bid of $32,500 for asphalt shingles and $95k for metal roofing. After a bit of discussion, a motion was made to select CTR for the project, for monies to be taken out of the Capital Projects budget. It was unanimously carried over/approved.

There were also a couple of items regarding the county possibly acquiring land to build a new physical therapy facility south of Mt. Grant General Hospital as well as maybe repurposing a COVID shed to store marijuana evidence outside of the courthouse building. Both items were moved to a later date for discussion.
