Mineral County High running back Cade Torres put the team on his back Friday night. With the Serpents in an 0-4 hole to start the season already, the junior pretty much did whatever he wanted on the field, helping his team defeat Tonopah 64-60 on the road.

Torres scored six touchdowns for Mineral County, converted four two-point conversions, rushed for a total of 283 yards, and even made nine tackles on defense in the Serpents first win of the season. It was a huge performance when his team needed it the most, especially when the defense had trouble containing Muckers quarterback Drew Otteson.

Tonopah’s sophomore accounted for six touchdowns of his own in the game that saw the teams combine for 124 total points.

Devayne Isom and Chase Reeves also scored rushing touchdowns for MCHS, and Reeves connected with Drake Spanier for the only passing touchdown of the game. Spanier also recorded the Serpents only interception on the night.

Defensively, Preston Larramendy led Mineral County with 21 tackles.

The Serpents (1-4) will welcome Round Mountain (2-3) to Hawthorne on Friday night at 7 p.m. for the Homecoming game.
