One of the biggest events of the year is back, welcoming classic car enthusiasts to six days and nights of vintage vehicle nostalgia. Throughout the week, people can enjoy drag races, cruises, show-n-shines, and more throughout Reno and Sparks.

As of 8 a.m. on August 2, more than 5,000 cars were registered for the 2022 Hot August Nights event. People enjoyed show-n-shines at casinos in downtown Reno and Kraig Parker as Elvis at the Grand Sierra Resort.

File photo – Classic cars, music and plenty of events will take over Reno-Sparks this week as Hot August Nights returns for another year.

In Sparks, tonight (August 3) and on Thursday, August 4, classic car owners are then invited to participate in the annual Drag Races & Burnouts held in the Nugget Casino Resort’s west parking lot. A registration fee is required, and this gives drivers a chance to practice their burnouts and see if their vehicle has what it takes to go faster than another vintage engine.

Other Sparks-specific HAN events include: a special HAN breakfast every morning from 7 a.m.-noon at Baldini’s Casino for $13.99 that comes with a free commemorative die-cast model vintage corvette (while supplies last); a poker run starting at Summit Racing on 960 E. Glendale Avenue on Thursday, August 4 from 8-11 a.m.; Ultimate Classic Car competitions at the Nugget with Ford and GM products; controlled cruises in downtown Sparks; a craft fair in Victorian Square; and more. There is also a battery of live music throughout Sparks all weekend long, including Brian Andrews emulating Buddy Holly, Johnny Cash, and other rock and roll legends (at Baldini’s Casino on August 4-5 from 6-11 p.m.), as well as Lady and the Tramps and an ABBA Tribute band playing in Victorian Square (August 4 from 5-9 p.m.). The outdoor stage in Victorian Square will also have live music on Friday and Saturday starting at 10 a.m. with DJ Rich West.

Some of the bigger acts include Starship featuring Mickey Thomas playing at the Grand Sierra Resort on Friday night and KC & The Sunshine Band playing there on Saturday.

One of the main highlights this week also includes the annual Collector Car Auction hosted by Motorsport Auction Group. Held in the Reno-Sparks Convention Center August 4-6, people will have the chance to bid on classic cars, street rods, muscle cars, and more. The proceeds of five of the cars auctioned off will be given to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Hot August Nights Foundation, and the Nevada Humane Society. In years past, MAG Auctions has raised more than $450,000 for these nonprofits and other local organizations. Admission is $20 for a single-day pass into the auction or $45 for a three-day pass; kids ages 12 and under are free and military/first responders can receive a discount.
