The Mineral County School District (MCSD) has been recruiting for a variety of positions that need to be filled going into the next school year, and its HR encourages all to apply.

At Schurz Elementary School, two full-time teacher positions are available with benefits; interested candidates must hold a suitable Nevada license with a teaching endorsement to apply.

Over at the Hawthorne Junior High and high school, MCSD is hiring for a football coach, woodshop teacher, high school counselor, and special education teachers. MCSD also has a position open for a parttime adult education assistant coordinator; potential candidates must hold at least a Nevada Substitute Teaching License to apply. The job pays $25/hr. and provides up to 719 hours per year of work.

Hawthorne Elementary School is looking for teachers, too, as well as a part-time learning strategist who is a licensed elementary school teacher, trained specific to the responsibilities under the RBG3 (Read by Grade 3) mandate, and preferably has at least two years of experience in a similar role.

Open Classified positions as of July 26th include the need for a kitchen aide at Schurz Elementary; a kitchen aide and fulltime special education teachers at Hawthorne Elementary; and a part-time para pro (paraprofessional/teacher assistant) at the elementary school. MCSD often has job vacancies for J1 visa teachers as well; the District works with an outside recruitment agency to deploy teachers from the Philippines.

Certified positions include teachers, counselors, administrators, and the superintendent while classified positions are the support staff such as secretaries, custodians, bus drivers, and para pros. Teachers and substitutes must me licensed by the Nevada Department of Education to get a job at MCSD.

MCSD Superintendent Andre Ponder says that the District is always looking for on-call custodians, substitute teachers, maintenance, and para pros, and if the teaching positions are not filled, then long term substitutes or joint classes could occur.

He said that the number of open positions is like last year at this time as people retire or move to other locations. Paraprofessionals (teacher assistants) make a starting hourly wage of $15.35 while a base teacher’s salary is around $39,813. Some staff members have been working at the District for more than 15 years. Ponder adds, “MCSD offers competitive salaries and good benefits” and he urges anyone who wants to make a positive impact on the life of Mineral County students to apply.
