89th Annual Pinenut Festival Set for Next Weekend
The Walker River Paiute Tribe will hold their 89th Annual Pinenut Festival on Sept. 19-22. Events such as the Pinenut Festival Pageant will be held on Thursday, Sept. 19 with Saturday holding such events as a fun run; children’s games; horseshoe tournament; the annual Gabe Sanchez Memorial Strongman competition as well as a free barbecue and hand games.
The Pow Wow Grand Entry will be held at the Arbor in the park beginning at 1 p.m. and again at 7 p.m. On Sunday the Pow Wow begins at 11 a.m. The host drum will be Young Chief.
Master of Ceremonies for this year’s Pow Wow will be Hank Johnson. A special hand drum memorial will be held for Gayle Hanson Johnson.

Table Rentals for Christmas Bazaar Now Being Accepted
The annual Christmas Bazaar, sponsored by the Catholic Ladies Guild, is scheduled for Saturday, Nov.16 at the Hawthorne Convention Center. Applications for table rentals are now being accepted. Returning and new crafters and vendors are welcome to participate. Tables rent for $25 each. If interested, please contact Jean Justus at 775-945- 2206 for an application or for more information.
Kick in for Cancer Event on Tap Sept. 28
John Franklin Shain Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2313 is holding their tenth and final Leonard Schaar Memorial Kick in for Cancer event on Saturday, Sept. 28.
A 5k run/walk, bean bags, Swiss steak dinner and raffles will be held. More information will follow.
Tickets Available for Hall of Fame Dinner
Tickets are now on Sale for the Oct. 12 Greenwave Hall of Fame dinner where Serpent boys basketball coach Pete Summerbell will be honored by his alum high school.
The dinner begins at 6 p.m. at the Elmo Dericco Gymnasium in Fallon. The cost is $40 per person and includes a buffet dinner and program.
