After a 5-0 sweep of a post-holiday tournament in Bishop, Calif., the Mineral County High boys basketball team continued its winning way on Friday by knocking off Pahranagat Valley at home, 53-39.

After falling behind 11-8 in the first quarter, the Serpents used a strong defensive effort in the second quarter to take the lead and they never looked back.

Robert McFalls led the way with 14 points, six rebounds and seven steals, while Trevon Wachsmuth added 11 points in the win. Seth Bozzi and Tony Dominguez each had nine points, and Nathaniel Montoya grabbed seven rebounds and had three steals.

Mineral County (14-1) hosts Virginia City tomorrow in its final non-conference matchup before beginning league play next week against Tonopah.

Girls top Panthers

The Mineral County High girls basketball team returned to action Friday with a 39-35 win over Pahranagat Valley at home.

Perla Gutierrez had a game-high 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds while Jerzi Moody-Isom finished with three points and led both teams with 12 rebounds.

The girls open league play tonight when they host Sierra Sage and briefly step put of conference tomorrow against Virginia City.
