Apr. 17, 1963 – Dec. 18, 2018

It is with great regret that we announce the passing of Kimberli Renee’ (Owens) Ruiz of Reno. Kimberli lost her battle with cancer and is now resting at peace with her Lord.

Kimberli was born in Reno to Thomas (deceased) and Ruth (Knowles) Owens. She is survived by her husband, Albert; children: Nicolette (Jason) Wicks, Julian, Abigail, Lauren, Benjamin and three grandsons. Also survived by her mother, Ruth (Frank) Erwin; four brothers: Jeffrey (Cindy) Owens, Scott (Kari) Owens, Russell (Kelly) Owens and Timothy (Barbara) Owens; step-sister: Stephanie Rourke; several aunts, uncle, cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Owen; brother, Dean Owens; step-brother, Michael Erwin and grandparents.

As a child she lived in Hawthorne and attended Mineral County schools for twelve and a half years. She was active in sports and cheerleading. Her last semester of her senior year she moved to Bremerton, Wash. where she graduated from Olympic High School. Later she attended the University of Washington where she obtained a degree in pharmacy. While in Bremerton she met the love of her life, Albert. They married in 1996 and moved to El Paso, Texas where they lived for nineteen years.

Kimberli always kept busy. She was a loving wife, mother of five, full-time career-woman, active member and an elder at University Presbyterian Church. However, she always found time to enjoy her hobbies, quilting, reading and gardening.

In 2015 her career brought her back to Reno. In December of 2016 she was diagnosed with glioblastoma multiform brain cancer. During her two year battle, she remained faithful to the Lord, courageous and strong. Kimberli’s final resting place is in the Genoa cemetery looking over the Carson Valley where she always felt at home.
