It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas here in Mineral County. Lt. Col. Dustin Bishop brought back the tradition of lighting a Christmas tree at the Hawthorne Army Depot.

The blue spruce was a backdrop for Jolly Ol’ Saint Nick who took a break from Ms. Claus at the North Pole and visited with boys and girls who have long Christmas wish lists.

This tradition will lead residents into the annual Parade of Lights to be held on Friday, Dec. 7 at 5 p.m. on Main Street in Hawthorne. Cecil the Serpent will make one last appearance before hibernating for the winter and will help lead others who are festive down to Veterans Memorial Park where Santa Claus will be waiting and the traditional lighting of the Hawthorne tree will be held. A variety of drinks and food will be available for little ones who are braving the cold.
