Sarah Elizabeth Orn (Waldis) passed away on Sept. 21, 2018, in Brentwood, Calif. She was 96 years old.

Sarah was born in Federalsburg, Md., on Aug. 22, 1922. Her parents were Joseph and Minnie Scott Waldis. Sarah graduated from Federalsburg High School in 1941. She married Leonard Orn, an ensign in the U.S. Navy, on April 8, 1944. Leonard was in the Navy and the Air Force for a total of 23 years, so they traveled a lot. Pamela was born in Hawthorne, Nev.; Bonnie and Gary were born in Washington, D.C. They lived in Edinburgh, Scotland, for one year. In 1952, they settled in Castro Valley, in the Bay Area of California, where Sarah lived until her death.

Sarah and Leonard divorced in 1964. Sarah worked in retail at Capwells and Macy’s for 22 years. She was an expert in mattresses and bedding linens. She was also pretty good at bowling. She played in bowling leagues for several years. She loved going to Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco for a Crab Louie, and we did that every time we visited.

Sarah is survived by her three children, Pamela Ogden (Bryan) of Tacoma, Wash., Bonnie Baxter of Sacramento, Calif.,Gary Orn of Brentwood, Calif.; seven grandchildren, David Ogden (Lisa) of Hillsboro, Ore., Peter Ogden (Linda) of Sammamish, Wash., Laura Ogden of Squamish, B.C., Canada, Tony Rodriguez (Yulie) of Folsom, Calif., Julie Williams (Richard) of Castro Valley, Calif., Scott Orn (Vanessa) of San Francisco, Calif., Ryan Orn (Effie) of Sacramento, Calif.; 15 great-grandchildren; also a sister, Margaret Wheatley of Federalsburg, Md.

Sarah was a wonderful woman and a loving mother and we will miss her.

A burial service was held on Oct. 17, 1 p.m. at Hillcrest Cemetery in Federalsburg, Md., with Pam Bockart officiating.

Marjie Lynn Souza

Marjie Lynn (Harrington) Souza passed away peacefully on Oct. 3 in Henderson. Marjie was the daughter of Richard E. Harrington and Norma F. MacGillivray Harrington. Born in Hawthorne on July 7, 1953, she was a 1971 graduate of Mineral County High School and attended the University of Nevada-Reno. In 1974 she married her high school sweetheart Maurice J. Souza Jr. and raised their family in Ocean Beach, Calif.

Marjie was very active in the local community and her children’s school and sports activities, all while working at Hjorth Travel. She became an avid softball player, participating in the “Over the Line” tournament for ten years taking third place in 2008. In 2003, Marjie and Maurice (Moe) bought a vacation home in Henderson and enjoyed splitting their time at the beach home and entertaining family and friends at their beloved “vacation” house in the desert. She lived every day to its fullest, her beautiful smile and bigger-than-life laugh will be missed by all and cherished forever…

Marjie is survived by her husband of 44 years, Maurice; daughters: Michelle Souza and Monica Souza; son: Maurice J. Souza III (Cindy); grandsons: Maurice J. Souza IV and Xavier Souza and her brothers: Richie and Roger Harrington.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday, Oct. 20 at Palm Mortuary in Henderson, Nev. In lieu of flowers please contribute in Marjie’s name to the charity of your choice.
