Glenn Oral Holdaway

Glenn Oral Holdaway, age 93, was called home by the Lord on Wednesday, May 30 in Hawthorne at Mt. Grant General Hospital.

He was born to his father, Harvey Holdaway and his mother, Rachael (Freedmon) Holdaway on Jan. 1, 1920 in Yonkers, Okla. He was raised and went to school in Veneeda, Okla. until he moved to Astoria, Wash. where he enlisted and was active in the US Navy from 1943 to 1952. While in the US Navy he was driving a river boat in Washington when he met his angel in life, Shirley (McCoy) Holdaway whom he married on April 9, 1951. Glenn was the oldest of four children and is proceeded in death by his brothers: James and Harvey; sister: Emmeline as well as he and Shirley’s own children: Sandra Rae, Larry Glenn, Harold Wayne and grandson, Austin Strole.

Glenn worked 36 years for the Teamsters Union until retiring and then devoting his life entirely to God as an ordained Southern Baptist minister. He used his skills as a pastor in Oregon, California and Nevada.

Although he loved everything about life he most enjoyed being a husband, father and great grandfather. His hobbies were preaching, fishing and telling stories about the good old days. Glenn was a loving and caring person that was loved by many. He is survived by his daughter, Sandra Jolene; son-in-law, Lance; his grandchildren, Jennifer, Jonathon, Larry, Amber, Ashley, Eric, Tracey, Ryan, Shannon, Larry Jr. and Carrie. He also had 17 great grandchildren and six great-great-great grandchildren.

The graveside service will be held on June 8, 2018 at 1025 Veterans Memorial Highway in Hawthorne immediately following the service there will be an open invitation celebration of life and potluck at the First Southern Baptist Church at 475 C Street, Hawthorne.
