James Charles Smalley was born on March 18, 1943 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Reno, Nevada and he passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 22,2025 at St. Mary’s Hospital; although he would have preferred to have been born and died on March 17th!
Jim grew up in Hawthorne, Nevada but spent most of his adult life in Reno. His professional life was spent working for AT&T but he treasured his time in the Nevada Army Guard where he achieved the rank of Lt. Col.
He had a true passion for computers, motorcycles, doing electrical work and exploring every nook and cranny of the State of Nevada.
Jim loved his family and would do anything for anyone he knew whenever asked.
Survivors include his wife Jean of 52 years, his two daughters Carol Ann (Adam) Baltierra; Jennifer (Jason) Cole and his granddaughters Bethany Baltierra (Skyler Giovannetti), Ruby Cole, and Stella Cole. He was delighted with his first great-grandson Jettson. Additionally, his sister Linda Feeney of Colorado Springs, CO and his nephew Brendan Feeney (Carrie) and great nephew Cameron and great niece Lucy of Littleton, Colorado.
