Jerry Wayne Bowers,

Jerry Wayne Bowers, age 78, passed away on March 2.

Bowers was born on Aug. 26, 1938 in McAllister, Okla. to F.H. and Mildred Arlene Bowers.

He moved to Hawthorne at an early age, between 8 or 9, with his parents. Here he attended school, made friends and called Hawthorne “home”.

After graduation from Mineral County High School, he would moved to Los Angeles for a short time where he attended barber college.

This would become a lifelong career for Jerry – where so many boys and men would sit in his chair, first located next to Joe’s Tavern until he built his new building further down the street.

When not at the barber shop, Jerry was involved with E Clampus Vitus and the Elks Lodge.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia; daughter, Becki and grandsons: Trea Bowers and Wattie Balderrama III.

There will be no services for Jerry. Instead, a potluck/storytelling/photo sharing celebration of life will be held at a future date.
