‘Stuff the Cruiser’ event Dec. 9 at dollar general

The American Cruisers MC Chapter 127 will be assisting the Mineral County Toys for Tots program by hosting a “Stuff the Cruiser” event at Dollar General on Saturday, Dec. 9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. All toys stay local.

Winter Holiday Concert set for Dec. 13

Mineral County School District Music Department would like to invite you to their Winter Holiday Concert on Wednesday, Dec. 13. There are two show-. Hawthorne Elementary Beginner Choirs and Bands will perform their debut from 5:30-6 p.m. in the admin building gym. The combined Hawthorne Junior High and Mineral County High School concert will be shortly after from 7 to 8pm.

They have a fun selection of winter music and Christmas favorites as well as traditional band repertoire and important works by J.S. Bach. Please bring your family and support the hard work of these great kids.

Great Basin College open house on tap at library

Great Basin College and Join Inc. of Winnemucca will be hosting an open house Wednesday, Dec. 13 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 to 4 p.m. at the Mineral County Library located at 110 1st Street.

If you are interested in education and career opportunities for in demand careers in Nevada, you do not want to miss this event.

Attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about GBC degree programs both available online and at the center locations as well as the residential campus located in Elko.

A representative from GBC will be able to provide on-site advising.

A representative from Join Inc. will also be able to provide information regarding career training, financial assistance for training, and current employment opportunities.

Annual Toys for Tots Run Dec. 16 in hawthorne

A Toys for Tots Toy Run hosted by the American Cruisers Chapter 127 will be held on Saturday, Dec. 16 at 11 a.m. The run will begin at the Mineral County Airport and will end up at the American Legion where there will be hot beverages served. Anyone can attend, cars, trucks and of course motorcycles.

Please bring an unwrapped toy and join the fun for the children.

Donations sought for ELks christmas baskets

Each year the Hawthorne Elks Lodge request donations to provide Christmas baskets to needy families. They ask for donations and food items to provide a Christmas meal for the family and toys for the children. Last year they put together about 100 baskets for needy families. Any assistance and donations would be greatly appreciated, so we can help as many needy families as possible. Donations can be dropped off at the Elks Lodge at 5 p.m.

The Elks Lodge is also taking requests for Christmas baskets. The lodge is open Monday-Friday 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Deliveries will be on Dec. 23, 8 a.m. to noon. Recipients must be present to receive.

4-H basketball league signups underway

The Mineral County 4-H Basketball League in collaboration with Mineral County Parks and Recreation have announced that player signups for this year’s basketball season has begun.

Cost is $50 per player and $35 for siblings. Children ages four years old to eighth grade are encouraged to sign up.

Sign-ups can be done Monday – Friday at the cooperative extension office, 205 South A Street in Hawthorne from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

coaches, referees needed

Coaches, referees and program support staff are now being sought for this year’s Mineral County 4-H Basketball League. Please contact the cooperative extension office at 945-3444.

Hawthorne Christmas Makeover contest

A Hawthorne Christmas Makeover is being sponsored by CAHS.

The purpose of this event is to “bring joy and sparkle back to our town for the holiday season by decorating your business or community organization.”

Decorating has begun but you must contact the CAHS office in order to be entered into this event by Dec. 8 as judging will take place on Dec. 15 at 3 p.m. The winner will receive a revolving trophy.
