Ella Holybee died peacefully at her home in Sparks, Nev. on May 9, 2017.
Ella was born on Aug. 29, 1949 in Grand Junction, Colo. The first of nine children, Ella’s family later settled in Susanville, Calif., where Ella met and married her dearest love, Dick. During their 50 years of marriage, they had three children and embarked on careers that took them to live in Europe for several years before returning stateside to settle in Nevada.
Dick and Ella lived several happy years in Hawthorne, where Ella finally pursued her lifelong dream of becoming a nurse. After getting her degree and licensure, she worked at Mt. Grant General Hospital and later as the Public Health Nurse for Mineral County. Retirement eventually brought Dick and Ella to Sparks, where she continued to volunteer for the community and be a constant help and support for her family.
Anyone who knew Ella knows how much she loved life and what a big presence she was for so many people – we now will do our best to tend and grow the love she planted.
Ella is survived by her mother, Mary; seven loving siblings; her devoted husband and three children; six grandchildren; one great-grandson and countless dear friends.
A memorial service will be held at the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church at 1395 Montello Street in Reno, Saturday, June 10, at 1 p.m., followed by a gathering at Dick and Ella’s home in Sparks.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Ella’s favorite charity, St. Jude’s Hospital or to another worthy cause.
