Mildred Louise Pierce Springer

Mildred Louise Pierce Springer[/caption]Mildred Louise Pierce Springer of Atlanta, Ga. died March 3, 2017 unexpectedly yet peacefully at the age of 88. 

She was preceded in death by her husband: Harry Eugene Springer and is survived by her brother: John Pierce, sister: Doris Eckert and son: Jess Springer. 

Mildred graduated from South Huntington High School in New York.  She received her undergraduate degree from SUNY Geneseo and Graduate Degree from University of Denver. In 1956 following an invitation to work in the then burgeoning Mineral County School Library as the librarian – Mildred made Hawthorne her home.

With Hawthorne for a home-base Mildred had many pioneering adventures across Nevada and Northern California. She strived to bring relevant cultural experiences to Hawthorne, as Mildred believed there was potential in Hawthorne. She worked to cultivate that potential by being active in several non-profit community endeavors such as: The Desert Dance Arts Theater and Walker Wassuk Arts Alliance.  She helped write grants for public works projects like the Lions Park Development and was active with The Mineral County Museum. 

Mildred remained in Hawthorne for many years until relocating to Oregon in 2013, where she could be closer to her son Jess and daughter-in-law Erika.

A memorial service will be held Sept. 9, 2017 in Hawthorne. Gifts can be made to the Episcopal Dioceses of Nevada c/o Mildred Springer History Fund.
