Dorothy Ellen Peterson
Dorothy Ellen Rose Peterson was taken home to be with the Lord on January 26, 2021 at the age of 93. She went peacefully with loved ones around her at Mt. Grant General Hospital in Hawthorne, Nev.
Dorothy was born December 16, 1927 in Carmen, OK, to Lisle and Jewel Norton Ross.
After a short time in Carmen,Oklahoma her family moved to Little Rock,Arkansas where she lived many years before the family moved to Seattle, Washington after completing 10 years of school Dorothy took a job in a bakery for a short time. Then in 1952 she made the move to Hawthorne,Nv where she went to work at the NAD as a munition handle. Dorothy met and married her husband of 35 years , Alvin B. “ Pete” Peterson. After marrying, she became a homemaker and started a family. Dorothy an “Pete became nether parents of 6 children.
Dorothy loved people and was a quiet and humble friend.
After the children were grown, Dorothy went back to work. She worked at the Cliff House Market for a number of years as a clerk. When her husband Pete passed away in 1988, with the help of a dear friend, Dorothy Tillman, she finally got Byers first driver’s license. She then went to work at El Capitan as a change girl. She was employed for about 10 years before retiring.
Dorothy loved to travel having been to Mulege, Mexico, Alaska, and taking a cruise to the Bahamas. She enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, crossword and seek-n- find puzzles and getting with friends at the Care and Share for friendly games of pinochle and bingo.
She had been active in Rebeckas, Walker Lake Boat and Ski Club, Walker Lake Fire and Ambulance Service, Red Hats, and volunteered at the Care and Share for many years.
Preceded by her mother and father husband Alvin B “Pete”Peterson two infant sons Charles Wesley and Richard Lee Peterson, infant grandson Joshua Clay Peterson, brothers John and Donald Ross, sister Vivian Ross William, companion of 10 years Robert Bassett, two granddaughters in law Ronda Andrade and Monica Peterson.
Survived by son James W. (Sherry): Peterson Rochester, WA, daughter Susan E (Richard) Dooley Hawthorne, NV, daughter Phyllis A. (John) Rebottaro of Walker Lake, NV, son Robert L. (Laura) Peterson of Las Vegas, NV, Grandchildren: Robert D. Peterson, Theresa (Joe) Hardy, Danielle (Joe) Ronsley, Michael Peterson, Roman ( Morgan) Andrade, Gabriel Andrade, Dory E. Dudley, Richard “ Skyler” Dudley, Jason Borges, Cheri Norris. Great grandchildren: Joey, Landon, Mikayla, Alain, Tatiyana, Roman Jr., Summerlynn, Kennedy, Claudia, and Meghan. Best friend Pauline Boyett and numerous friends, too many to name.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, February 13, 2021 at 11 a.m. at the Hawthorne cemetery. No visitation or reception due to Covid restrictions please wear a mask.
Officiating will be Pastor Frank Reynolds of Walker Lake Baptist Church.
Pallbearers are John Rebottaro, John Peterson, James Peterson, Robert Peterson, Richard Dudley, and Gabriel Andrada. Honorary pallbearers are Michael Peterson and Roman Andradea.
