The Mineral County High softball team suffered a crushing defeat Saturday when they lost the second game of a doubleheader to Carlin and were eliminated from postseason contention.

The Lady Serpents finished with a 16-8 overall record and went 5-3 in conference play, finishing in third place behind Whittell and Coleville.

The day started out on a high note for the girls as they recorded 18 hits on their way to a 21-13 win over the Lady Railroaders. Amanda Rivero led the way with four hits, two doubles and three runs scored. She also pitched two and two thirds innings of relief of Hailey Lahre who earned the win. Lahre also had three hits, two RBIs and four runs scored at the plate. Tiera McFalls finished with three hits, two of them triples, and Julieanna Williams notched three hits and four RBIs.

In game two, Mineral County jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first but couldn’t hang on and fell 9-8. They scored three in the 7th to close the gap, but couldn’t complete the comeback in their final game of the season. Williams tallied three RBIs in the loss, while Lahre and Williams each had two hits.
