Elementary students sand a host of Irish songs at the Care and Share last Thursday.

As five classes of Hawthorne Elementary School kids descended upon the care and share building, the seniors that were enjoying their lunch on Thursday, March 9 had an added surprise. The children had brought their Irish singing voices along with St. Patrick inspired artwork to pass out among those attending.

The seniors joined in as the children sang favorite melodies such as “When Irish Eyes Are Smiling” and other enjoyable sing-along pieces. Many smiles were exchanged as the students received applause for their singing efforts and were encouraged with welcoming handshakes as they mingled among the seniors while handing out their handmade gifts. Several seniors shared that they were retired administrators and teachers which made the visit special for them.

These respectful and polite students had been practicing within their classes for weeks in preparation for this event. Teachers Joe Burch, Tricia Shumann, Tyler Nicholls, Jamarr Covington and Mary Jo Gemeke proudly stood by to support this community outreach to the seniors attending that day.
