A local Mineral County resident was killed in a vehicle accident at a local favorite fishing spot over the weekend.
John Shelton, age 43, of Hawthorne, was killed when the Jeep Cherokee he was driving rolled over near “The Elbow” on the Walker River around 4:26 p.m. on Sunday, July 31.

The accident happened in Lyon County but their officers were assisted by Mineral County deputies.

Three passengers who were also in the vehicle were met at the bottom of Lucky Boy Road by Mineral County ambulance attendants who transported them to Mt. Grant General Hospital.

According to a spokesman for the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, it is unknown if alcohol was a factor in the accident. The sheriff’s office is awaiting the coroner report.
