American Legion Post 19 in Hawthorne properly disposed of tattered American Flags at a ceremony on Tuesday afternoon.

Flag Day was celebrated by those in Mineral County with red, white and blue flying in the wind. The week of June 12-18, U.S. Citizens are urged to fly their flag that week.

Members of the American Legion Post 19 in Hawthorne take time during Flag Day to properly dispose of any tattered, soiled or torn flags. Under the direction of the commander, flags which have been donated are burned in the customary manner.

The American Legion collects flags throughout the year to dispose of during this week. Donations of retired flags can be made to the American Legion or dropped off at the Independent-News.
