The Hawthorne Elks Lodge was assisted by many volunteers and contributors that helped to ensure that no one goes hungry over the holiday season during their annual community food drive.

The Hawthorne Elks lodge received a lot of support this past week with their annual community food drive.

The Borealis Mining Company continued their support bringing a U-Haul truckload of food to the lodge and as always, CAHS contributed to the effort along with the assistance of Safeway for collecting food for us.

This year the Reno Catholic Charities were able to assist the Elks as well.

Exalted Ruler Steve McBride was concerned about the amount of food that was received last year. “We has more request for assistance than food” McBride said.

So he reached out to fellow member Barb Owens, who had a connection with the Catholic Charities in Reno.

McBride feels confident that no request for food should be unanswered this Christmas.

The lodge will be open to the community Friday evening Dec. 18 to box up the food. Delivery is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 19.

The Elks would really like to thank Lisanna Wilson from Borealis and Taylor Townsend from the Reno Catholic Charities for stepping up, and as always, CAHS and Safeway and members of the community.

The Elks work very hard this time of year McBride stated, “This is what we do, help the community.”

If anyone is in need of food for Christmas, please call the lodge at 945-1704 after 5 p.m. Monday- Friday.

Our goal is to help anyone truly in need of assistance McBride stated.
