At 5:37 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31 a two-vehicle collision occurred on U.S. State Route 95 at mile marker 80 in Mineral County resulting in a rollover and one person being transported by Care Flight and another by ambulance.

A 2003 Dodge pickup driven by 22-year-old Kevin Frank of Schurz was traveling northbound on US 95. The Dodge drifted into the southbound travel lane, over the centerline, where Justin Steele of Fallon, was traveling in a 2004 Kia Optima.

In an attempt to not be hit by Frank, Steele steered his vehicle to the left. The vehicles collided, with Frank’s vehicle striking the right side of Steele’s vehicle.

According to a press release by Nevada Highway Patrol, the Dodge overturned and came to a rest, on its wheels, on the east side of the highway. The Kia came to a rest on the east side of the road on its wheels with major damage to the right side.

Frank was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Steele was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Due to injuries occurred in the crash, Frank was transported via CareFlight to Renown Medical Center in Reno with unknown injuries. Steele was taken by ambulance to Banner Churchill Community Hospital in Fallon with non-life threatening injuries. Both drivers have been released at the time of the highway patrol release.

“Alcohol involvement is suspected in the crash and a blood draw from Frank was obtained,” the release stated.

The location of the accident is a two-lane road with one lane in either direction. The posted speed limit was 55 miles per hour.
