Berthie Marie Matte passed away peacefully at home Hawthorne, on Good April 3.  She was born Nov. 21, 1930 to George and Ruby Roberts in Mena, Ark.  She was the only girl last surviving of eight brothers.
She entered and served in the Army as a cook at FT, Knox, Ky. in 1951-1953.  She met the love of her life Rudolph Matte (deceased) and wed in 1952.  They had two children Robert (deceased) and Dawn.  They settled in Enid, Okla. where she worked as supervisor at the Enid State School for over 30 years where she retired.  They moved back to her childhood home of Mena, Ark. until Rudolph’s passing.  She moved to Hawthorne in 2004.

She was an avid gardener and loved her flowers.  “Marie’s” social event was to yard sale on the weekends.  Her favorite pass time was crocheting.  She made beautiful bed covers to daoilies and everything in between.

She leaves behind her daughter Dawn (and Mike) Kunzi of Hawthorne; Two grandchildren Jon (and Julie) Berginnis of Suisun City, Calif.; Catrinna Berginnis of Hawthorne; Three great grandchildren Kylie, Aidan and Alex; and many nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are being made by Gunter’s Funeral Home and Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held in Mena, Ark.
