Amerigas, a local home heating/propane supplier, is located at 1118 5th St. The company continues serving Hawthorne community after more than 25 years here, according to Julie McFatridge.
The Hawthorne branch delivers propane for about 100 miles in every direction. “Besides Hawthorne, we cover Mina, Luning, Schurz, Pilot Peak and Gabbs — we even have homes we supply on Lucky Boy,” said Keith Heidkamp.
Amerigas employs four people: Customer relations representative McFatridge, service tech Heidkamp, delivery representative Steve Webb and part-time customer relations representative Donna Hartley.
Both McFatridge and Heidkamp have about 10 years service with Amerigas, while Webb has 16 years of service. The branch has two delivery trucks.
McFatridge says Amerigas likes to maintain close community ties with programs such as School Days/Community receipts, in which Amerigas donates a portion of customer payments to community entities such as the Boy Scouts. Amerigas also has a customer appreciation day, complete with barbecue in August. The day also features raffles, with proceeds donated to local charities.
Sales marketing representative Sheri Silsby dropped in by way of Carson City and mentioned Amerigas is starting a drawing for 100 free gallons of propane every month. She also mentioned Amerigas has a 24/7 hotline for customer concerns or emergencies. “Really, we just want our customers to know we care about them,” Silsby said.
