Mineral County High School senior Kailee Hawk has been selected to compete in a Down Under Sports event in July.

Kailee Hawk hopes to be doing some running in Australia in July. Kailee, a senior at Mineral County High School, has received an invitation to participate in Down Under Sports in Australia. She has been awarded First Team Selection to the 2014 Nevada State Track and Field Team.

Kailee is the daughter of Janeen and Shawn Clark and participates in several athletic events. During her high school career she has participated in cheerleading, powder-puff football, basketball, volleyball and track. During the 2012-13 track seasons, Kailee placed in the top ten for hurdles at nearly every meet. In May of 2013 she competed at the NIAA State Championship, with a hip and knee injury, and placed second in Division IV one hundred meter high hurdles and fifth in Division IV 300 meter hurdles.

“I am excited to be asked. Not many kids get letters to compete in this kind of a race,” said Kailee. “I didn’t know about this event for track before this. They [the committee that seeks contestants] look at your times in a state meet to determine whether you’d be eligible to compete.”

The easy part was being selected to go. The hard part is going to be raising the money to go; to attend the ten day event, she must raise the money to cover the cost of travel; food and board.

“I have to raise $6,500, and that’s just for me. I would really like my coach to be able to attend as well,” Kailee said.

Kailee has a few fundraisers events already planned and several more to be added. Currently she is doing a raffle for a handmade blanket, a 50/50 raffle, as well as selling Down Under team t-shirts at $20 per shirt. In addition she will be contacting local businesses seeking sponsorship. For those that would like to contribute directly to Kailee’s travel account they can go on-line at www.downundersports.com/make-payment (Kailee Hawk, team: NV, Event: Track and Field athlete); and with the corporation tracking the donors she will be able to thank everyone personally.

All sponsors will be entered into a drawing for either an all-expense paid trip for two to the 2014 Down Under Sports competition in Australia or for a five day cruise for two.

If you are interested in purchasing raffle tickets, would like a sponsorship letter or a team t-shirt please contact Kailee, Shawn or Janeen at 775-312-0188.

In order for Kailee to meet the first deadline a minimum deposit of $1,200 has to be made by Oct. 23. The deadline for submitting the final payment is June 2, 2014.
