The Serpents Track and Field team traveled to Carson City to compete in the Northern Nevada Regionals and came back with a team title.
After a dominating performance the week before at the preliminaries, the Serpents picked up right where they left off qualifying in 14 of the 18 events. Of those 14 the Serpents claimed nine gold, one silver, three bronze and three qualifiers.

The MCHS track and field team won the regional title and will compete at state this weekend.
“I could not be any prouder of the team and their effort this year,” said Coach Jaramillo. “The guys have been training year round being that most of them also play football and basketball, which contributes massively to the success they have had. It is great when you know the team is already in shape, that allows us to focus on the events and mechanics.”
The Serpents travel back to Carson City on Friday and Saturday to compete at the Nevada State Championships.
“We are right where we need to be to make a run at the state championship, Jaramillo said. “The guys are focused and determined to finish the season on top and 1A champs, they know all year they competed against the state’s best and they did not let the 5A, 3A or 2A intimidate them.
Matilde Porterie and Jayona Kimmons stepped up when the team needed them most. Porterie qualified in the 300 hurdles and Kimmins qualified in both shot put and discus.
“The girls both battled all week with a stomach bug and found enough strength and energy to qualify, they were true mega beast,” said Jaramillo.
It’s been over three decades since the Serpents have won a team title and Jaramillo hopes they can snap that streak this weekend.
