UNR Extension is doing a free trash pick up in Hawthorne April 19-20th for Hawthorne homeowners and residents, inviting those who live in its town limits to put their trash out on the street to be collected free of charge. This free Trash Pick Up happening in the middle of this month does not apply to commercial properties, including apartment buildings. Any trash that is placed on the asphalt after the Thursday night of April 18th will not be picked up.
A few things to keep in mind:
- All trash must be placed on the asphalt as anything leaning up against fences will not be picked up.
- All trash must be separated into four piles: 1) lumber or wood; metal pipe or appliances, except refrigerators; vehicle batteries; and tires.
Old cars or anything that has refrigerants, herbicides, pesticides, or paint will not be picked up. Building demolition materials are also prohibited, as well as commercially cut tree limbs.
The Mineral County Sheriff’s Office will issue littering citations for trash that is put out after the deadline.
If people have any disabilities that may hinder their ability to get materials out onto the street, they can call (775) 945-3444 for aid (the deadline to request help is April 16).
