- The first snowfall of November 2003 hit Mineral County on Oct. 31. On Nov. 1, four inches of snow was found along the Wassuk range along State Route 359 South.
- Jack and Sudha Desai were awarded “Pride in Hawthorne” for their Best Inn & Suites on Fifth Street.
- Susanne Park and her daughter, Mary Swisegood made special Halloween treats for the Mineral County Senior Center.

- Mrs. Bobble Gang, American Association of University Women President, gave her official visit to the Hawthorne branch of the AAUW.
- The annual Elks Charity Ball was held at the Hawthorne Elks Lodge. A large crowd attended and enjoyed a great evening of dancing and fellowship.
- A high speed chase started near Fallon and led officers from Pershing, Churchill and Mineral Counties through two counties ap Main Street in Hawthorne, ended when the driver lost control of the vehicle near the road to Whiskey Flat Ranch on Highway 359 South of Hawthorne. The driver was arrested for being under the influence of alcohol, possession of and being under the influence of a controlled substance.

- NEWCO Metals , Inc. of Fairbanks, Alaska, acquired all interests in the limited partners in the Candelaria Silver Mine. The production rate at Candelaria was approximately 1.7 million ounces of silver and about 9,000 ounces of gold per year.
- Early Childhood Prevention Curriculum Program began at Mineral County School District with teachers Carol Munger, Donna Fenison and Evelyn Clerk named as instructors. The aide was Laura Fuller.

- James Fairfield, Mineral County Civil Defense Director, reported that an emergency operations center, located in the Mineral County Courthouse would be available in the event of an emergency.
- The Senior and Junior Classes at MCHS won awards in the Nevada Day Parade for their floats which included the only animated float in the parade, Winnie the Pooh.
- The Serpents lost to the Manogue Miners in the final football game, 65-6 Quarterback Brent Kidd completed 25 out of 41 passing attempts.

- Coach LaRoi Robertson announced that the Serpents would play the final game of the season against the Yerington Lions. The conference game marked the final game for the Senior starters, Leonard Blaisdell, Duffy Sammaripa, Mike Lyle, Skip Churchyard, Steve Owens, Don Sarnowski, Roger Williams and Brent Foshie. Other Serpents players were Gene Christianson, Charles Morgan, Rollie Rather, and Sal Enriquez.
- Charles Springer, State Democrat chairman, spoke in Hawthorne and blasted the Goldwater Republicans.
- Chrysler and Plymouth new car lines were added to Seevers dealership in Hawthorne.
- Uncle Vane Day said: ‘Judging from the amount of the public debt, it is no longer much of a compliment to tell a lady she looks like a million dollars.’

- When Grant L. Robison, superintendent of state banks and ex-officio state auditor, released a highly critical report of Mineral County Fiscal practices the Mineral County Commissioners wrote an equally strong and critical answer to Robison which was published in the newspaper.
- Two California teenager boys were apprehended in Mina in a stolen vehicle. The FBI from Reno came to Hawthorne to take custody of the boys pending auto theft against them.
- Trees , poles, and fences were being removed to permit widening of the highway through Hawthorne.

- A Halloween party sponsored by the Mineral County Sheriff’s Office was very successful and included a parade for the children, the judging of the costumes that took place around a large bonfire, and the children were given apples and cookies. Movies were also shown at the USO Building (presently the Convention Center) and the high school group was entertained with a 7 piece navy orchestra from NAD Hawthorne, the Bluejackets.

- George Pollack of Sacramento, California was the successful bidder to build 22.28 miles of gravel surface highway between Coaldale and Basalt. All but three miles of the new road would be located in Esmeralda County and it would be the first ‘leg’ of the Mt. Montgomery Pass highway.
- Twenty men and women were enrolled in a four week Prospector’s Course being taught in Hawthorne by Donald Cameron of the state department of vocational education. Classes were being taught at the high school building five evenings a week.
- The Navy was pleased with the large turnout for the Navy Day Open House on October 27, when 427 visitor’s registered at the depot.
- Most of the 200 enrollees in the Civilian Conservation Corps arrived at Thorne by a special train and were transported to winter camp on Mt. Grant by trucks from the Naval Depot. Many of the CCC boy’s thought an earthquake that occurred was some kind of staged affair to shake them up a bit.
