The Mineral County High football team continued its impressive stretch of football on Friday night when they welcomed Carlin for the Serpents Homecoming game.
The Serpents cracked the 60-point mark for the third straight week on their way to a 66-24 win over the Railroaders.
After jumping out to an 8-6 lead in the first quarter, Mineral County put up 38 points in the second quarter to take a 46-12 lead into the half. Serpent quarterback Chase Reeves threw for three touchdowns and ran for two in the win.
Devayne Isom carried the ball 23 times and led the game with 107 rushing yards and a touchdown, and also caught a touchdown pass from Reeves. Triston Jones finished with 64 yards on the ground with a pair of touchdowns as well. Quentin Isom added two touchdown receptions for the Serpents.
Ivan Eaton and Christina Borja each had a pair of sacks as the Serpents finished with seven overall.
It was the third straight win for Mineral County who improved to 3-1 on the season. They sit in fourth place behind Virginia City, Eureka and Pyramid Lake in the 1A West Division.
Up next, the Serpents travel to Mammoth on Oct. 6 before finishing the season with big games at Eureka and Pyramid Lake.
Volleyball team wins four straight
The Mineral County High girls volleyball team won four straight games recently following a tough start to its season.
The girls lost their first nine games, but have gone 4-1 since Sept. 8 with wins over Sage Ridge, Sierra Sage Academy, Excel Christian and another one against Sage Ridge. The streak came to an end on Sept. 21 with a 3-0 loss to Coleville.
The Serpent girls are back in action on Friday at home against Smith Valley beginning at 3 p.m. before traveling to Coleville, Sierra Sage Academy and Tonopah to end the season.
