The football season is right around the corner for the Mineral County High football team and head coach Nate Ridley is confident the Serpents will open eyes and earn respect this season.
The team has eight all conference players returning, including the defense conference MVP DeVayne Isom. Isom also led the entire nation in return yards last year. Defensive coordinator Phil Jaramillo said he and the team are “super excited to get started.” Jaramillo believes that this year has all the tools to be successful and make a run for the title.

The Mineral County High football team opens the season in two weeks at Virginia City.
“To be the last team standing you have to execute in all 3 phases of the game; offense, defense and special teams,” Jaramillo said.
Coach Shawn Isom understands the title could come down to one big play and said “we have the national leader in return yards and if it comes to a big play we like our chances.”
The first home game is Sept.15 against Wells who was the second seed out of the east last season.
The coaches and athletes want to express their appreciation, gratitude and support from G.R.C. Mine for the very generous sponsor of new equipment like the 3 man sled, new uniforms and helmets. The Serpents want to thank everyone who helped with the bleachers and field, the El Capitan, Booster Club and Grant Basin Tire.
The Serpents open the season at Virginia City on Sept. 2.
