1919-2023

Leroy A. Grant born on December 3, 1919 in Staples, Minnesota passed away March 1, 2023 in Hawthorne, Nevada.

Leroy was a remarkable gentleman. Serving in World War ll in the Asiatic Pacific Theater he received the Bronze Battle Star. In 1949 he married Mere DeMars Palmateer in Reno, NV. Working in Hawthorne from 1949-1951 he then worked in Herlong, Ca. Before purchasing a Trailer Park in Lincoln City, Oregon. In 1967 he returned to Hawthorne where he worked at the base until he retired in 1981.

In retirement Leroy grew grapes and made his own wine besides growing his regular garden. Each day he worked out his treadmill, walked and did household chores including cooking for his family. He enjoyed carpentry, making gifts for his family and friends. At the age of 102 he renewed his driver’s license. He still worked out on his treadmill until his last days and did his household chores. He passed away on March 1, 2023 after a few hours’ stay at Mt. Grant Hospital with 5 generations besides his bed.

Preceding him in death Beas his wife in 1989, and a son, Joseph Grant in 2017.

He is survived by his son Larry Grant in California, daughter Pam Jenson of Hawthorne, 11 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and 28 great great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held June 24 from noon to 3 p.m. at the Elks Hall. A potluck will be served.
