The biggest high school basketball tournament of the year in Hawthorne is returning this weekend as teams from across the state will come to town for the annual Serpent Classic.

Eleven games will kick off the first day of the tournament that is being played at the MCHS gym and junior high gym. The Serpent girls team will close out the action at the junior high gym Thursday night when they take on Battle Mountain at 615 p.m., while the boys will close out the day at the high school gym in a 7:30 p.m. game.

The Serpent boys will be back at it the next morning at 9:45 a.m. when they take on Sierra Lutheran, and the girls will play at 1:30 p.m. against ROP that same day. Later on Friday, the girls and boys will both take on Lovelock for their second game of the day.

Both Serpent teams will play two more games on Saturday to close out the tournament. You can find the full schedule on page 3.

The boys welcomed Fernley to open up the season in a rare matchup against the Vaqueros on Saturday and fell 47-33.
