Hawthorne resident, Jordan Sweet, 17, attended the 2022 Junior Gold Championships in Michigan in July. While she did not finish high enough to receive any scholarships, she had numerous first-time experiences.
During the registration day for more than 4,000 athletes from around the country, Jordan and other junior bowlers had the opportunity to meet several professional bowlers, including Parker Bohn pictured here with her. She also signed up that day with her information to participate in communications from colleges with bowling teams.

During the qualification days, Jordan had college coaches reach out to her and had one give her a couple of pointers that immediately improved her games on the tough challenge shot. The day after the qualifying rounds, one of the bowling ball sponsors held a day at the beach, which Jordan and her new friends attended, eating barbecue and wading in Lake Michigan.
Jordan, and her family, appreciate the financial and community support she received from the Hawthorne area. The Kenny Bostic Memorial Youth Athletic Fund helped tremendously with their assistance for the motel room while in Michigan. Other funds from the American Legion and the bowl-a-thon added up to cover about two-thirds of the trip expenses. Jordan and her grandparents, Sonny and Robin Sweet, thank everyone who provided money to give her this special opportunity.
